Mount Dennis BIA Video Series

Mount Dennis is a small neighbourhood in Toronto that is undergoing some big changes. Where the prominent Kodak Factory once lay will soon lie one of The City's largest transit hubs. This is set to bring new life to the area and with this redevelopment, Mount Dennis Business Improvement Area is looking to shape the district into a vibrant and welcoming community.

The Brief

Create a video series that promotes the Mount Dennis neighbourhood and a business within the BIA. Positioning the community as an “up-and-coming” locale. The production will celebrate the people and business owners who call it home.

My Take

I started by getting to know the area and the businesses that are a part of the BIA. Mount Dennis is one of the most culturally diverse neighbourhoods in the city. Although it is a small — often forgotten — neighbourhood amongst Torontonians, it has a lot of culture and authentic charm. Portrait photographs of residents and business owners were an essential part of the videos, to show that the heart of the community truly comes from the people who call it home. I used a vibrant color palette, heartwarming images, and clever animations to make Mount Dennis — a working-class community that’s seen its fair share of adversity — inviting and lively.
